Parents: We are working on a "Heritage Day" project with the fifth grade, so they may be asking you questions about relatives who first came to the United States. We are hoping to celebrate lots of stories of diversity. Students should answer the prompt below in a well-written paragraph, which we will use to create a script for the students to perform at Heritage Day. To facilitate that process, we are asking the students to type their paragraphs and post them on the Public Drive folder for this purpose (under Student Work, 5th Grade) at school. They can also give me a digital copy via email or USB drive. We absolutely need the paragraphs written and transferred to us digitally by Monday, April 29th. Thanks for your help! Heritage Day Writing Prompt: Tell us about your earliest relatives to come to the United States to live. Who were they? What were their names? When did they come here? Why? What else do you know about them? What are the stories that your family tells? What impact has their move or visit to this country had on you? Please include specific narrative details and stories wherever you can. Each fifth-grader’s story will be used to create a staged reading script to be read at Heritage Day. Please share honestly and relate your heritage story with pride.
Note: You only need to write about one parent in one detailed paragraph. Send via email to Ms. Davis (sdavis@sdtmes.org) or save to the "Heritage Day Project" folder in the "P" at school. Needed by Friday, April 26th.
